About a month ago we did get to go to Tampa for Jordan to take his test (which of course he passed!). While he took his test that morning I just hung out watching TV in the hotel room, but luckily he didn't take long at all. We went out to lunch once he finished and headed to the beautiful beach at Clearwater.

Catch-up
So it's been awhile since I last blogged. I guess the reason would be that there just isn't too much to blog out lately. Jordan is a month into his training and has one month to go until he starts his training out on the road. He is excited and nervous all at the same time. I am just glad that he gets so much training because his life is pretty much depended on it.

I must say it was gorgeous. I guess there's something about white sand that gets me. We walked up and down the beach and ended our day with ice cream and key lime pie...YUM! We had to make sure we didn't leave too late because of traffic, but of coarse you don't plan on all the accidents that happen on the freeway so we still hit traffic and 3 hours later were home (It only took us 1 1/2 hours to get there). It was a fun day away from the norm and hopefully we will get to do something like it again soon.

Colorado Springs
Last Friday Jordan and I drove down to Colorado Springs. Jordan's parents live in Colorado and his grandparents were going to be there for the week so we decided to drive down.
Saturday I finished up a scrapbook for my mother-in-law Heidi. She wanted a little scrapbook of her new grandchild and I offered to make her one if she bought all the supplies. Here is a few samples of the many pages.

Monday morning at 4am Jordan and I woke up to go hiking with his sister and brother-in-law. We drove for 30 minutes to start hiking Pikes Peak which is about 14,100ft. We started hiking the "Incline" at 5am. The incline is basically old railroad which look like steps going straight up the mountain. It was a mile of pretty much walking up stairs.

After the incline we headed towards Pike's Peak with about 10.5 miles left. It was a long hike. With about 3 miles to go Jordan got altitude sickness. So the last 2 miles we took a lot of breaks and made it to the top around 1pm.

Overall the hike was just long (13 miles), however, it was really cool at parts.

Wednesday Jordan and I went to the park with his dad and sister. Jordan started teaching me how to play tennis then he played a soccer game with his sister Riley while I practiced with his dad.

After playing tennis the whole family went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse to celebrate Jordan's Birthday. His birthday is the 10th but we decided to celebrate it on Wednesday. I made sure to tell his dad Randy to tell the waiter that it's Jordan's birthday because they bring out a saddle and make you sit on it. We got a picture, but I currently don't have a copy. Later that evening we ate the cake I made for Jordan. I bought a few of the cake supplies that I have been wanting and decided to use them to bake Jordan's cake. I didn't have any of my other decorating tools with me so I did my best with a ziplock bag.

We had originally planned to drive back Thursday, but we decided to stay a few extra days. Thursday I spent a lot of time learning how to sew. Heidi had cut out squares of Jordan's old t-shirts and blankets from when he was a child all the way up to college. I then took the t-shirt squares and sewed them together and made my first sewing project...a t-shirt quilt. I learned how to straight stitch, back stitch, and aplicae (spelling?) items onto other materials. After all the squares were sewn together, Heidi taught me how to put badding and the back of the quilt on. It was a great teaching project.

Today I spent most of the day on another project. Riley asked if I could make a shadow box of a picture of Braeyln and her. Again she bought the paper and I did the project. I think it turned out great, but the picture doesn't show the depth. There are a lot of things popping out.

Later in the afternoon we all went rock climbing at The Garden of the Gods. We were only able to do two routes until it started raining. The picture of Jordan below is from a few days earlier and we had it blown up and framed. We are going to climb again tomorrow and hopefully I can get a similar picture of myself to frame along side his.

PR-----YEAH!!!
For the past few days I have been in Irvine California soaking up the sun which means sunburn for my white skin. I went to the beach one day and then just spent the rest of the time relaxing like it was spring break.
My first track meet of the year was yesterday. I was nervous because I have been out of action for several months with my knee being injured. I’ve been slowly building back up, but my knee is only letting me do about ¼ of the normal workouts. It’s okay though, I focus on quality versus quantity.
I had an awesome day in practice Monday which led me to believe I could come in at start at an opening height of 5’2 ½’’. I cleared it, then 5’ 4 ½’’, 5’6’’, then 5’ 8''! PR stands for Personal Record in track and that just what I did; I set a new personal best for myself. I had one decent attempt at 5’10’’, but the other 2 weren’t as pretty. My first attempt, however, led me to believe that the height is not out of my reach.
I placed 2nd overall and received a nice complement from one of the officials. She said, “You are by far my favorite jumper out here today. It didn’t matter what happened here [she pointed to the mat], you always kept a beautiful smile.” I thought that was really nice of her to say. I simply was smiling because I got my first opportunity to attempt 5’10’’.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
My birthday was a couple of weeks ago on Febuary 13. Jordan and I technically celebrated it on the 12th because we were going to Las Vegas the next day. We ate dinner at Tucano's and Jordan made me a beautiful yummy cake all from scratch.

I then opened his gift to me....

A CRICUT!!!
For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a scrapbooker's dream. It will cut any shape or font letters in any size I tell it to on whatever paper I put in it.
___________________________________________________
The next morning Jordan and I headed to Vegas with his sister and brother-in-law. Neither Jordan or I have ever been.
New York New York

A statue in the Venetian

We were taken out by Rocky in Planet Hollywood

Caesar's Palace

Serendipity - Best Frozen Hot Chocolate EVER!

Bellagio water show

I Met Elvis

Jordan really wanted to take me on the gondola boat ride where they sing to you in Italian, but we decided $64.00 was a bit much.

One other thing we did was Lance Burton - a magic show.
Overall, we had a great time and were very exhausted by the end of the day. We look forward to more one day trips in the future.

Christmas Break
For Christmas Jordan and I flew out go Colorado Springs and spent the holidays with his family. The highlights of the 2 weeks that we were there consists of:
MAKING GINGERBREAD HOUSES the Payne way.

WAKING UP TO A FORT CHRISTMAS MORNING. It's a tradition in Jordan's family to have to get through a fort made with blankets before you can get to "Santa's Gifts."

ROCK CLIMBING/BOULDERING

INDOOR SKYDIVING. They have a huge fan blowing up on you and an instructor is in there the whole time to help you get proper form so that you can raise, lower, turn your body however you want.

5 HOUR HIKE UP INTO THE MOUNTAINS
