What's With all the Homemaking?

When I was younger I always watched how my mom would clip and use coupons, cook every meal, bake yummy treats, sew or mend multiple things for everyone, and keep a clean house. I believe I always noticed this, but didn't really care to learn how to cook, bake, or sew. So why all of a sudden am I into all of these things? A very good question I'm contemplating right now.

I was always into sports, high jumping in particular, and school. My brain was so focused on advancing in those two areas that anything else seemed like a waste of time. Once I got married, things changed a little. I felt like I wanted to keep a really clean and organized house. Jordan did most of the cooking because he was home before I was in the evening. Since I've been graduated I have this desire to cook for the two of us. Believe it or not, I really enjoy planning meals and grocery shopping. I think it's the organization of it all that I love so much plus the excitement of saving a few dollars with coupons.

I can't really pin point why I started baking cupcakes. All I know is that once I started I became addicted. Then I wanted to learn how to decorate them so I took a cake decorating class. Next came the obsession with scrapbooking. I have scrapbooked since I was in primary, but I feel now I am way more elaborate with it all. Now I have a new found passion for sewing. I just got my first sewing machine and I just finished my first official sewing project. After 20 hours of making a purse, I can honestly say that I think sewing is going to be another addiction. I had so much fun making my purse and learned so much.

I felt like I did a pretty good job on my first project being a beginner sewer. My mother-in-law was generous to buy all the material and supplies for me. I started at 5:00pm Saturday night and 20 hours later (Sunday afternoon) I finished. I got the tutorial here.

I'm proud of myself because I learned how to put a zipper in, put a pocket in, make darts, make pleats, and make ruffles all by myself (well with the help of the computer).

After I finished my purse I kept thinking how weird it is for me to be wanting to learn all of these homemaking skills. I say weird because a year or two ago I was so involved in other things. I guess a change is always good. I think the reason is because I have the time now to learn all these skills that will benefit my future family and kids cause I know once kids come along there's not going to be much time to learn new hobbies.
